Legend of the Galactic Heroes (銀河英雄伝説, Ginga Eiyū Densetsu) or "LOGH" is a series of science fiction novels written by Tanaka Yoshiki. An anime adaptation of the novels ran from 1988 to 2000, as well as a manga based on the novels, with art by Katsumi Michihara. There have also been several video game adaptations with the most recent release in 2008 being a real time simulation.

Neither the novels, anime, nor manga have been released officially in the English language. However, there have been English-language fan translations.

Set somewhere in distant space around the 35th century (the late eighth century of the story's "Space Era"), Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a story of the epic struggle between the totalitarian Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance.

The original Japanese title is often abbreviated as Gin'eiden (銀英伝) in Japan, while English-language fans often abbreviate the series title as LOGH (capitalization for the acronym varies). The original video animation series spanned 4 seasons, for a total of 110 episodes. In addition to the original series, numerous additional OVA prequel series' have been released, frequently detailing side-stories of the main characters, taking place chronologicallybefore the animated series. You may also see LOGH material refer to the series by its German name, 'Heldensagen von Kosmosinsel."

Chronological Order

The following is the chronological order of the side-story OVAs to the primary LoGH OVA continuity: every side story takes place before the main-series, serving as prequels.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Side Stories Season 1 and 2 are split into multi-episode arcs that all occur before the series, but at various different points in the chronology and lives of the characters. Even episode arcs within the same "season" may not necessarily occur in order. While not reccomended for first time viewers, a 2nd time viewer can watch the episodes in chronological order and get event by event coverage of the character's experiences.
